Maybe it’s time passing, the way the world feels right now, or something else entirely, but I’ve been thinking a lot about the women from this part of the country. Ones that I’ve been lucky enough to have in my life and the ones I’ll never meet, or maybe have yet to meet. Their lives and stories really show how complicated and beautiful this place is. There are things that connect them, things that set them apart, and so much inspiration to be found in all of it.
Contrary to some popular beliefs, there’s no one kind of Appalachian. The region is, and has been, home to generations of mothers, daughters, mawmaws, sissies, and friends of all types. All worth celebrating. And that’s what I aim to do with this new seris. Daughters of Appalachia--an ongoing collection of profiles and interviews. Thanks for reading!
